New Name: NX  (Old Name: UNIGRAPHICS)

(Latest release - NX 6 / June 30 2008, Website - Siemens PLM software )

NX was originally called Unigraphics. Unigraphics software was developed by the McDonnell Douglas' Unigraphics Group, subsidiary of McAuto, the Automation division of MDC (1976 – 1991).

McDonnell Douglas Systems Integration groups business acquired by EDS (Electronic Data Systems) in 1991 (1991 – 2001).

.

In 2001, EDS Company was renamed to UGS (2001-2002).UGS acquired Structural Dynamics Research Corporation (SDRC) in 2001, Unigraphics was combined with SDRC's I-DEAS CAD product.

In 2002 UGS name changed to PLM World, Inc.

On January 24, 2007 the German electronics giant Siemens acquired EDS PLM World Inc.

NX is the commercial CAD/CAM/CAE PLM software suite developed by Siemens PLM Software.

The gradual addition of I-DEAS functionality into the Unigraphics code base was the basis for the current NX product line.

NX is a parametric solid / surface feature-based modeler. It uses the Parasolid geometric modeling kernel.

NX operates on Linux, Mac OS X, UNIX, and Windows (XP and Vista).

NX is widely used in the engineering industry, especially in the automotive and aerospace sectors. NX has some presence in the consumer goods design sector.
